Millie

This mural is on a bridge about 800m from my office. It s a throw back to the days when this place I call home was a centre of linen, weaving and clothing manufacture with many local mills supplying the raw materials. The Mills were staffing by mill girls - "millies" as they were called. The name is now a term of disrespect, used in a nasty way, a way which suggests the girl so called is a "loose woman"!
We know nothing about this young woman, except this legacy a short very personal poem about her early days. She is a "weaver poet", part of the fabric of my history, a grace note - yet obviously a woman of substance! On the shoulders of giants...……..
