The Blue Hour

Like yesterday I was out onto a frozen lake again. This time I went down the hill to the big lake. It was already getting dark but out in the open there was enough light to walk. I followed the edge of the lake to a small island and then crossed the island to get to an old, and therefore big, beaver lodge. By the time I got there it was too dark for photos, but I'll return another day.
The ice is in very good condition, thick and smooth. Normally there's a layer of snow insulating the ice from the cold air but this year the ice is completely exposed to the cold so every cold night (or day) the ice just grows a little thicker.  It's a great winter for the x-country ice skaters!
