We headed over to Sheffield to attend the North of England Indoor Athletics Championships at the EIS Stadium. One of B's athletes was competing for the first time, in the 60 metre sprint.

It's always scary for the first time, when you don't know the procedure for registering, the warm up and call up. The coach is allowed to be in the warm up area to advise the athlete, which is reassuring for the novices.

E coped well, a bit scared but was really positive. She didn't go through to the semi's, not surprising as she will be 17 year old later this year, so runs in the under 20's. She just wants to know her time, which will be published by Monday. Her target to beat in future races.

She is back there tomorrow for the long jump and her Dad will take her over. Obviously she will be in the warm-up area on her own, but she now knows what to do.

We were at the same stadium 10 years ago with another heptathlete. I was amazed how much it has changed, completely renovated. Last time there weren't any refreshments, but today I was able to enjoy a coffee, an essential for the 'bag lady'....me.
