FREMANTLE DOCTOR SCULPTURE

The Freo Doctor called by today.....it has a habit of doing so throughout summer and we love it.  Why?  It keeps us cool and at times, great ocean sailing, ie The America's Cup defence in 1987.
The hot dry easterly winds for most of the day and the south-west sea breeze in the afternoon - the Freo Doctor, Fremantle's air conditioner.  The America's Cup defence established Fremantle as a world-class venue for yacht racing.
Next to the entrance to the Fisherman's Harbour is the Fremantle Doctor Sculpture.  This sculpture features a solar powered weather station and a wind harp (in purple) (designed by Alan Lamb).  Apparently the wind harp responds to the Freo Doctor in that the wind strums the wires of the harp, which sing.  I didn't hear it sing while there this afternoon.  Perhaps the wind wasn't in the right direction.
There are seagulls on top.

Very kind of you all to visit the little Fairy Tern yesterday.

Have a great week everyone.
