Pentland Hills

Nearly the 2nd Saturday of the month, and we're planning a return to the Pentland Hills this month ...

- meet at 10am on Saturday 12th January
- we'll be starting the walk at the Flotterstone Information Point (see: http://www.pentlandhills.org/info/3/about_the_park/30/visit_us_visitor_centres/3)
- there is a large car park at Flotterstone; and public transport options (buses 101 and 102 are best) are detailed in this leaflet:
  http://www.pentlandhills.org/pentlandhills/download/downloads/id/88/how_to_get_to_the_pentland_hills_by_bus.pdf

The walk will start and end at Flotterstone; and the rough route will be:
- Flotterstone along the track to Glencorse Reservoir
- from Glencorse Reservoir, we'll go up over 'Phantom's Cleugh' and past Bonaly Reservoir
- from Bonaly Reservoir, we'll go down to Sanctuary Wood and then along to Whitehill Plantation
- we'll pass Scotland’s First World War Centenary Wood (which is quite newly planted) - see:
- then up and over, between Allermuir Hill and Capelaw Hill
- before descending from 'Fala Knowe', back down to Glencorse Reservoir
- then back along the track to The Flotterstone Inn - see: http://www.flotterstoneinn.com

You can see the route (mostly) outlined, along the tracks, on page 2 of this leaflet:
http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/pentlandhills/download/downloads/id/147/visitor_guide.pdf

In total the route is about 8-9miles in length; and should take us between 4-5hours.

- there is obviously some hill-climbing involved in this route (and it'll be mid-January!); so good footwear and waterproof kit required
- and do bring along some food/packed-lunch etc. --- but we can also obviously get some food/drink when we finish at The Flotterstone Inn :-)

If you're local and want any further detail, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me directly :-)
