Chilled

The downside of living in an old cottage is that it is blipping cold.

This was the temperature in the living room this afternoon with the heating on full blast. It takes an open fire and oil fired heating to get the room anywhere near an acceptable level to sit in. Feet are best elevated and even then thick soled slippers that cover the ankles are required to prevent the draught penetrating under the door and the cold rising up through the floor.

Numerous layers of clothes are needed, both for myself and to lend to visitors.
On a positive note, I think if anyone arrived with the notion of making unwelcome advances, they would probably give up after the fleece jacket and 3rd jumper had been ripped off, when seeing a thermal top and T shirt still needing to be negotiated.
Woolly tights are essential, not a fashion statement, as is a hat, which will prevent up to a third of body heat escaping. Using a keyboard with gloves is a failure but fingerless mittens are a live-saver.

Other facts I remind myself of are that 99% of germs are unable to survive at such low temperature, so I have remained surprisingly healthy, and of course keeping the body temperature up to 37.5 requires the burning of additional calories.

In conclusion you may assume I am slim and healthy. (Once you find me underneath all the layers !!)
