Smew

The Smew is a winter visitor from Scandinavia and Russia; impressive to see even at a distance because of his beautiful dazzlingly white plumage with very neat black pattern and due to this old wildfowlers gave it the name of 'white nun'.

The Smew, a diver, is the smallest of our three saw-billed ducks, so called because their bills have serrated edges for gripping slippery fish with a hook on the end.

I definitely needed a longer lens for this but opted to walk the dogs too so it wasn't to be.

I would like to just make everyone aware that Draco's Dad Sedge on blip has gone in for very major surgery this week. His recovery may take a while and Draco and I think it would be nice for people here to leave him goodwill messages to cheer him up through the next months. Draco knows he would appreciate it and am sure Lyns would too! Please look in if you can.
