Wanderings & Witterings

Witless Bay

Back blip - but only by about seven months!

Our first stop today was the pretty little village of Brigus, where we had time for a pleasant walk around before continuing our journey southwards to Witless Bay Ecological Reserve.

There we went on a boat tour to see the largest display of seabirds I have ever seen - apparently the reserve contains North America's largest Atlantic puffin colony with more than 260,000 pairs here during the late spring and summer, as well as murres, kittiwakes and petrels. It was certainly blowy and cold up on deck, but it was an amazing experience.
