A Big Slice of Community!

Yesterday, the Three Amigos had a taste of culture at Salt's Mill and today it was the ideal day for some community experience.  Tony headed out early doors to St Ives with his spade to help on the second of three community tree planting days.  Blippers who follow local journals will know something of the history of Betty's Wood in Bingley St Ives Estate which had to be felled in the winter of 2017 due to a virus in the larch trees, incubated by the rhododendrons.  The felling left the hillside looking like a war zone and the woodland walks much missed by local folks.

On the positive side, the area is now being replanted with broadleaved trees including birch and oak, and the local community, including schools, have been invited in to help with the planting.  Contractors will do the planting on the steeper slope overlooking the Aire valley.

After I had put the Club newsletter to bed, I headed over to the wood to give the Jersey boys a walk and to catch up with Tony.  Surprisingly, the work was finishing early as they had such a good turnout of people that they had run out of trees, so the volunteers were heading home.

Several people asked me about the Three Amigos as I set them up on a tree stump, and enjoyed hearing their story.  I have decided to go with this blip which is of two of the folks from the charity 'Trees for Cities' which has supplied the trees being planted today.  They loved the story too!
