Powder Puff Tree

I remember my gran having a pink powder puff that she kept in a crystal bowl on her dressing table.
This stunning red flower, which I spotted in the Botanic Garden Glasshouse, does look like a powder puff but I'm sure that it's not quite so soft, fluffy and ticklish as the real thing.

The plant, of course, does have a Latin name .... Calliandra haematocephala and I only know that because there was a label on the side of the tree trunk. The tree is native to South America so not too many spotted in our local gardens!
