One plus to taking photos with film is that it's more real your film comes in these little cannister things. There very probably is a proper word for these but I have no idea what it is, so "cannister thing" it is.
Now they are plastic and plastic is Not A Good Thing but the chances of any of these ending up polluting an ocean must be tiny. You can buy empty ones on ebay - and I remember there was a long running discussion on The Guardian letters page about the alternate uses they can be put to.
The one on the left (from Fuji Film apparently) here is quite old. Old enough to no longer contain a roll of film (but it is full of 2 Euro coins). I suspect that some of you will have some of these containers around the house.
What do you do with the ones you have?
In other news, the first photo has been taken with the SLR. Very odd not to have a display on the back of a camera. But the click was good. As was that winding the camera on to the next frame bit.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what ill formed and badly focussed nonsense finally gets developed from the first roll of film.
Oh and there were no further e-mails from sleeping me.
