Saving lives

Sunday morning is training time for the admirable volunteers who run Arnside Coastguard Rescue Service.

With fast riding tides and quicksands in the estuary they are lifesavers in many emergencies. I believe they are the only Coastguard Station to be equipped with one of these Jetski craft.
If you are being rescued you are pulled up onto the yellow board at the back where you hold onto the black handles or if you are unconscious you may be strapped to them.

Over the years hundreds of people have reason to be grateful to the crew who give so much to the community.

By coincidence, having planned a rescue blip, it was a great surprise when at lunchtime not just one, but two air ambulance helicopters landed in a field on the edge of the village. I have not discovered why they are here.
I decided not to take the five minute walk with my camera. It looked serious and Blipfoto members are not people who behave like paperazzi.
