Lozarhythm Of The Day (No. 100):
Spirit - Dark Eyed Woman (1969)
This single almost sums up the sound of 1969. I never had the chance to see Spirit live, although I did see Jo Jo Gunne, the band formed by Jay Ferguson and Mark Andes after they had left Spirit, but I knew the albums, which also featured the drummer Ed Cassidy and his stepson Randy California, who was taught to play guitar by Jimi Hendrix and was a member of his band, the Blue Flames.
Ed Cassidy, who died on 6 December 2012, is perhaps best known for his work in Spirit but had worked with many top jazz musicians including Art Pepper, Julian Cannonball Adderley, Roland Kirk, Lee Konitz and Gerry Mulligan.

As this is the 100th LOTD I have done a statistical breakdown by decade. It seems, with one or two exceptions, to quite accurately represent my general listening patterns:
1930s 1
1940s 0 (have to do something about that)
1950s 5 (somewhat under represented)
1960s 28
1970s 10
1980s 8
1990s 10
2000s 13
2010s 25
