Bridging the Seasons

I did my Winter Bird Survey for January today. The frozen ground helped me get across some of the boggy areas which can be pretty challenging for old bones like mine. I don’t take my camera as I like to keep equipment to a minimum - binoculars, phone, walking stick, drinking water, pencil, clipboard and recording sheets. There wasn’t a great deal around - no new birds for the year list. I’ve posted this lovely packhorse bridge before but it looks particularly fine covered in its winter’s coat of moss. It’s my favourite part of the survey walk.
