Big Garden Birdwatch

It is the weekend of the Big Garden Bird Watch, a bit of "citizen science" here in the UK.

Getting out of bed first thing and looking out of the window, we realised that there was another sort of garden bird watch going on. First he sat on the hedge. Then he was gone. Then he turned up on the fence.

Our flock of sparrows cheeped away quietly but kept their heads well down.

Not the best of images, but it represented a good start to the day. And sparrowhawks are beautiful birds. Beautiful markings, that fabulous yellow eye and black pupil, and yellow talons. And very alert to everything going on.
