Logs in Snow

I ventured out despite today's high of 3F (-18C). At least it was bright sun, but I didn't stay out very long. I was able to get some variation in tones to describe the shape of the snow piles and give some texture to the snow. This has been difficult in previous days with the overcast conditions and flat light.

I like the contrasting rich colour of the wood which is scarce in winter and judging by the rings this tree must have been growing here for quite a time.

Unfortunately it's basswood that has little economic value, at least the ash trees can be used for firewood.
