Casa Velha

Old house. A lot of Maputo's interesting spots are not well advertised. Casa Velha is a case in point. Built in 1908 and now labelled as a cultural association, it feels like walking into a derelict building slated for demolition. There's a basic restaurant tucked around the back, which should become a lunchtime favourite. Relatively cheap and interesting Mozambican fare. I went with my colleague Moshin who has recently returned from a long holiday in Brazil and added some anti-Jair Bolsonaro rhetoric to proceedings. When he was a teenager, Moshin used to come to Casa Velha for gatherings of left-wing types.

A good word used commonly in Stoke is 'traipse'. I used it in an email to colleagues in the UK today before realising it has an archaic definition that means 'slovenly woman'. No offence intended.
