Hybrid

This is a bloom of the Saucer magnolia, Magnolia x soulangeana. It is a hybrid of the Magnolia denudata and the Magnolia liliiflora. It's parents' roots, so to speak, are in China but the Saucer magnolia was hybridized in France. Most of my neighbors just call it a Japanese magnolia, which it isn't, of course. It has a copious amount of blossoms which are rather short lived. Most of the ones in my neighborhood are dropping their petals already, but they are quite spectacular at full bloom! I don't often spend a lot of time reading up on non-native trees, but my curiosity got the best of me on this one! ;)
