Forty years ago a small group of women, led by my late friend Jean Denton, started a charity to raise funds in the fight against cancer. It was our reaction to the sad death from the disease of a talented young Formula One racing driver, Gunnar Nilsson.
Over the four decades since then, WOMAC -Women On the Move Against Cancer - has raised over £1 million to fund cancer research and help support those affected by the dreaded disease.
Tonight was our annual fund-raising party, always held close to Valentine’s Day, and we raised another £15,000. Good result.
