Michael Kenna

A bit of a tribute today to one of the world's great landscape photographers, Michael Kenna.

I was fortnate to find time to see an exhibition of his prints at Chris Beetles Gallery near Picadilly Circus. For those of you who don't know Kenna's work, it has a number of characteristics. It is shot on film and hand printed. It is in black and white. Many are shot before dawn or after dusk. And he has a remarkable ability to simplify and rationalise the elements in a landscape that produce compositions that are quite exquisite. His prints are very collectable and of course very expensive. To indulge in that I would require the services of a divorce lawyer.

This less than perfect example of street photography is of the gallery in Swallow Street off Picadilly, taken on an iPhone with the Hipstamatic app.
