Malayan porcupine - Cambodia

I visited Angkor Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity today.  They take care of wild Cambodian animals that are endangered or vulnerable and have been captivated and mistreated.  The mission is to treat them and put them back in the wilderness, but many are so damaged that they can't survive. The animals are used for traditional medicine, as pets, for giving luck, black magic or for food.

This porcupine has been captivated and abused because of it's hair. The hair is used in traditional medicine to cure cancer, dengue, fever, diabetes and surgical wounds.

The best way to get around is by tuk-tuk. This extra snapshot was taken while we were driving.
