Silly

The silliness this Saturday is mine for thinking I could get a decent shot of the birds atop Central Market through my car window a great distance away.  Here is what I came up with.

I had an interesting session with Thanh at the library today.  We read an article about whether there is a difference between grasshoppers and locusts.  It turns out that research has found that locusts are grasshoppers that have transformed as a result of stress!  Grasshoppers are usually quiet and solitary insects.  But when there is a scarcity of food, as during a drought, and grasshoppers are forced into close proximity with each other, such that their legs are rubbing against each other, it creates what the article called "tickle torture."  The stress of the situation releases serotonin that causes them to grow larger wings, change in color, become more aggressive and swarm.  Once the stress is passed, they return to their normal selves and go their separate solitary ways.  Isn't that amazing?  I learn so much from tutoring.
