murmuration

Having heard of a huge murmuration just 25 minutes from home we made plans to visit the pretty village of Parwich this evening. This morning I visited the peregrines again (extra) but thought better not tel them about the starling murmur.
The other extra shows a small group of starlings coming in to join the growing big group.
There were murmurings amongst the villagers about the murmuration this evening. The police, RSPCA and local papers had been called to report a neighbour who had got big diggers in today and was ripping up a large hedge that the starlings are roosting in. The neighbour has apparently never been popular, A property developer he acquired the old hospital and redeveloped it for himself. The building is up the hill and he had the huge hedge planted to block the view of other houses.
There was a lot of speculation how the starlings would react when they cane to roost. Well they started to fall from the sky and then there was a period when the group fragmented into lots of groups and took a long time to roost. They clearly used a lot of trees as well as the hedge and I assume they all found a bed.
