Pico Arieiro 1818m

We took a bus tour round the East side of the island today.
We visited Machico ( Madeira’s first settlement ); Porto da Cruz ( rum factory and the spectacular Eagles Rock ) ; Santana ( quaint old thatched A framed cottages called pathieros ) and lastly drove up the 3rd highest mountain on the island Pieco Arieiro. All in all a very good bus trip with a good lunch as well. Total respect to the bus driver for navigating some steep and narrow roads - I am so glad I decided not to hire a car !
