Gifford and the Lammermuir Hills

Nearly the 2nd Saturday of the month again - and next week (9th), we're planning on going to Gifford, in East Lothian, and doing a walk on the nearby Lammermuir Hills ...

... some details follow:

- meet at 10am, Saturday 9th March
- towards the end of the minor road, which goes through Blinkbonny Wood ... map reference NT 538 637 ... no car park, but plenty of verge-parking available!
- not that easy to get there by public transport, but is possible via a combination of the 253 Edinburgh to Haddington, then changing to the 123 Gifford Circle
- service 253 details here: https://bordersbuses.co.uk/images/timetables-2018/235-253Map.pdf
- service 123 details here: https://www.eveinfo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/123-060219.pdf

And here's an outline of the actual walk:

- start as above ... towards the end of the minor road, which goes through Blinkbonny Wood ... map reference NT 538 637
- we'll then head South West on the old 'Lauder Road'
- going up 'Lammer Law' - see: https://www.themountainguide.co.uk/scotland/lammer-law.htm
- we'll then go down to Hopes Reservoir and up/round the 'Hope Hills' - see: https://getoutside.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/local/hopes-reservoir-east-lothian
- over to Harestone Hill and along to the Fort at map reference NT 570 630 - see: https://bit.ly/2XrAqH4
- we'll then contour round and down towards Danskine - see: http://www.scottish-places.info/towns/townfirst2824.html
- then along to Gifford via Castle Wood - see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gifford,_East_Lothian

- there is then the option of some 'end-of-walk refreshment' at The Tweedale Arms Hotel - see: https://www.tweeddalearmshotel.com/
- all before any drivers, who have left their car at the meeting/starting point, will be given a lift back to collect their vehicles :-)

- the full walking-route is circa 10-miles in length; and should take around 5-hours
- there is obviously some hill-walking involved in this month's route; so good footwear and waterproof kit required
- and do bring along some food/packed-lunch etc. --- but we can potentially also get some food/drink when we finish at, The Tweedale Arms Hotel :-)
