If you can't beat them...

Nantmor Valley.

Down in Wales meeting Phil & "Tush" at Gelli Iago (the Nantmor Mountain Centre) along with 9 other members.  We three OAMs (Old Age Mountaineers) decided in view of the weather forecast and the speed the clouds were zooming past the tops we would walk at low level.

Our route was down the valley via the footpaths over the low ridge to Nantmor Village.  Then up Cwm Bychan eventually dropping down to Llyn Dina where we had previously positioned Phil's car.  A great walk, at one point going over the ridge to the village, we met a dog walker.  She said in the many years she had used the path she had never met a walker before.

We arrived at the car mid afternoon just as the heavens opened.  Back in the centre in front of a roaring fire we were enjoying a brew when the others arrived from their walk absolutely soaked!  I think the longest walk I have done since I had my bionic hip.

In the evening we had a communal meal with 3 quests the secretary for the centre (who lives just down the valley) and 2 Essex Firemen.  The firemen had come to see the centre with a view to using it as a base for DoE visits.  It suited their requirements admirably.  If I am allowed a little semi commercial; if you are looking for "look after yourself" hostel type accommodation for a party (particularly young people as that is what the centre was created for by students from my college) you could do a lot worse than google Nantmor mountain Centre.
