Snack time

A long walk round Ferry Meadows in somewhat cooler and more changeable conditions, but still with bursts of welcome spring sunshine. Willows and elms were all bursting into bloom, and a wide variety of  birds were singing. I spent some time watching this grey squirrel carefully removing an immature poplar catkin and then sitting on a branch eating it - a snack rich in both sugars and protein. There was a lively breeze, but the squirrel managed to keep its balance, shifting its position as necessary to maintain its equilibrium.
