Cygnet

One of last year's cygnets is just starting to get its white feathers. There seem to be two of them on the river here, though they're very often quite  far apart. In the winter they stuck together with the parents, but now that the adults are presumably busy thinking about this year's nest the family seems to be more split up. The Canada geese too seem to be forming pairs (see extra). And an egret has shown up here in the last few days. Usually there's one here all winter but I think this is the first time I've seen one here since this time last year. I'd need a long lens to blip that though - it keeps well away from humans, though still close enough to observe with the naked eye.
