View from a window.

This morning has been one of torrential rain and sleet, with exceptionally strong gusts of wind.
I went into to our loft bedroom and took this photo before breakfast.
Rain is one of the reasons why our land is so green.
Whenever I fly back home from wherever we happen to have visited, the checker-board patchwork landscape of the verdant countryside greets us with its fields and hillsides, until our urban sprawls loom into view.
It is becoming a little brighter now after lunch.
I drove to see a friend this morning through roads awash with streams of water pouring along the gutters next to the the roadsides.
The cars in front sending up fountains soaking the pavements as they drove by.
Apparently this is now a "lull" until the next onslaught which will arrive overnight, announcing itself with gale force winds and more rain.
Everything outside is absolutely sodden.
Lovely word "sodden".
(For anyone who used to watch "Miranda" she would have repeated it to herself!)
It is from Old English.
In the 1300's it used to mean soaked or softened in water.
Also "boiled for a long time". Now the meaning stands as "completely soaked".
My choice this afernoon is housework or reading...........
