TVs Are Not Just For Christmas

A very happy day today as J returned from Sheffield University for Christmas. We rushed back from Anglesey this morning to pick her up from Stockport station.

As I write this, it is early evening, and MrsB is in the kitchen cooking up a fabulous curry, whilst sharing a bottle of Prosecco with J. All I can hear is the clatter of pans, and the chatter of gossip. It's a nice homely feeling. The only thing that could improve on this, would be a glass of wine and some nibbles brought in for me. (It just was, so haha result!)

The only other event of note today was we finally 'retired' our old Sony TV of some 12 years. For the last 2 of those, it has been taking longer and longer to come to life after switching on. It began taking 20 minutes to start, but has recently been taking up to 6 hours. Mmm.

Ridiculous I know, but our reaction was to treat it kindly, like an aged family pet. We wanted it to wait for it to pass on to that channel on the other side, but it just kept hanging in there like a game old bird. A bit like Brucie, basically.

The final nail in it's coffin though, was J's return and the prospect of even greater delays with various Christmas TV treats in prospect.

Given it is so ancient, it was also about as deep as it was wide. I nearly gave myself a hernia with it's weight, taking it to the dump.

As I left it in the container there, I couldn't help but feel a slight pang of guilt. Dumped there with all the other rejects, it reminded me of the old robots living in the Steel-Container-City in the film i Robot. That was based on the Isaac Asimov short story of the same title, as well as his book The Caves of Steel. Oh dear, well at least they have a roof over their heads, and can keep one another company.

Meantime, already installed at home is our bright shiny new Full HD Smart LED TV with full Internet access. Sort of like trading in your flea-bitten old mutt for a cute bouncy puppy for Christmas really. Guilt? It's already starting to fade with the prospect.
