Calf Close Plantation

A better sort of day so we went to Howe Ridding to see the daffodils and the new coppice works. That’s all looking good and ready for this years butterflies and bumblebees.
The recently clear felled plantation at the bottom of the hill is an interesting area. There’s a lot of brash lying in heaps and some areas of grass and herbaceous plants. I am going to carry out a bumblebee survey to see how the area develops over the next few years. It looks a mess at present but there’s plenty of foxglove plants so it should look good fairly shortly. And we were buzzed by a queen bumblebee as we were leaving!
