Blists Hill

Today we visited Blists Hill, which is a village set up as if it were 1900, complete with re-enactors and costumed school children.  The village was quite industrial, with a working steam-powered mineshaft lift and a forge for making wrought iron.

Late afternoon we drove into Iron Bridge.  We were going in anyway, but the recent flooding (and resulting temporary defences) meant that we were impressed by the height of the river, which had definitely overtopped, flooding most of the paths by the river.

After chatting with the Environment Agency staff who were dismantling the temporary defences, we learned that the water level barely reached them, but the water was only millimetres away.
