Rain

The two of us waited in the doorway while the rain came down like a river going sideways. The man sharing my shelter grinned at me and shrugged. I was going to have to move soon, rain or no rain. I held my carrier bag above my head and, hunched over in a futile attempt to minimise my exposure, ran out into the rain. I was soaked within seconds.

I looked back and watched the other guy as he put his phone and wallet into his plastic bag, rolled it up tightly and walked out into the rain.

Shoulders back, face turned up to the sky.
