Maryport Blipmeet

DerwentLass had arranged a blip meet with Maryport harbour as the venue.  We left home on a sunny  mild spring morning and arrived in Maryport in the middle of winter.    Very cold, windy and very poor visibility - Scotland had disappeared!

In spite of the weather 11 blippers 2 husbands and 4 dogs turned out.  The blippers were:

DerwentLass and R
hf13 on his first blip meet
Woodpile again a first blipmeet.
flavia13 and husband (!st blipmeet)
Dotty3 first blipmeet
marpaul
trevorearthy
biblinros
Kanyl
Clickychick
Myself

In the morning we wandered round the inner dock with its working boats.  Lunch was a warm break in the Lifeboat Inn, an excellence choice by DerwentLass.  Then in the afternoon those still able to stay progressed to the outer harbour (now a marina).

Of the many shots I took I decided on the Lighthouse because of its interesting history.  The Light house is cast iron octagonal in shape and believed to be the first of its type anywhere in the world.  Dating from 1846 it is among the oldest cast iron lighthouses in the world.  Standing 9.75 m (well it would be built as 32 feet) it makes an impressive and unusual landmark.

A very successful Blipmeet thank you DerwentLass
