Christmas village

One street 7

This evening we had the first of our Carol Services. ( We are a joint choir so we chose to have one in each church this Christmas so next Sunday we will have one in Wilsden, our neighbouring village.) So I took the opportunity to take a picture of the village Christmas tree with the church lit up behind waiting for the service to begin.

The tree is provided, erected and decorated by the Gala Committee. We have a children's gala in June with a parade down the full length of Long Lane and then down to the park where there are races, stalls, rides and a tea tent all accompanied by a traditional jazz band. They had a Gala Queen disco last week where next year's Gala Queen and her attendants are selected.

The Parish Council organise the lighting of the tree which was last Sunday and provide refreshments in the church afterwards.

As you can see the tree is erected by the war memorial. This is on one of the corners surrounding the mini roundabout at the bottom of Long Lane, across from the Old Police House and the PO and butcher's - all shown earlier in this series.

A good Carol service and mulled wine and mince pies to follow!! We'll do it all again next Sunday!
