Erraid

Erraid , which is in my constituency, is a tidal island off the west of Mull and is the setting for part of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Kidnapped”.

Stevenson spent time there as a child , as the family firm built the lighthouses at Dubh Artach and Skerryvore. It is said that Jack Hawkin’s island map in “Treasure Island” bears a strong similarity to Erraid.

The island is used these days by the Findhorn foundation and the Erraid Residency was a project undertaken by four artists from 6 Degrees West. One of the residency outcomes was these exquisite stamps and envelopes .

I am sponsoring a small exhibition by the project in the Scottish Parliament this week (hence my extra photo) and I hope that many of my colleagues will take a look.
