Life's Little Moments

Phoebe of the golden-green eyes

What a day we've had.  Up at 5 AM and on the road by 6, arriving at the imaging/critical care veterinary clinic by 7.  We were seen fairly quickly by a very competent personable vet who quickly deduced that what Phoebe has is an inner ear infection.  She explained that it does not respond to the same kind of antibiotics as middle ear infections so that is why the last round of drugs had little effect other than clearing up surface infection.  So, we now have a once-a-day liquid that smells like Tutti-fruiti (which cats don’t like in case you were wondering) which she is to be given for the next 3 weeks. And no MRI for now (whew).   With luck we will start to see some signs of improvement in a week or so.  It's possible that the drugs will need to be continued as inner ear infections in cats can take quite a while to clear up.

The vet also told us that it is quite possible/likely that Phoebe will come out of this with a permanent head-tilt to the right.  Which isn't a big deal in the grander scheme of things.  You can see the head and ear-tilt in this photo. It won't affect the quality of her life and some might even say that it would give her an even more endearing look.  I'll leave you to make your own decisions.

After we made the trek back home, Hubs headed to the Man cave to work on the car and I settled down in the sanctuary with Phoebe and napped on the futon.  The weather is gorgeous today, in the low 70's, but I was too wiped out to muster any energy to do a damned thing.  No gym, no hide, no nothing.  But everyone gets a pass on occasion.

Today's photo was taken while Phoebe was sitting on the floor of my sanctuary - I quickly grabbed a sheet of black board and tilted it behind her - got two shots before she moved away.

Thanks for all the kind words and good thoughts for Phoebe.  She's not out of the woods yet, but I feel that we are on the right track at least.
