raise the bridge

The traditional Dutch lifting bridge is in Haarlem, NL, where we are staying for a few nights we flew to Schipol this morning and spent a few hours walking the sights of Amsterdam before catching the train to Haarlem.

It's nice being a tourist, rather than in this area on business, it gives time to see more things at leisure. I am so pleased I chose to stay in Haarlem as Saturday afternoon in Amsterdam was just so tacky with hoards of Hens and Stags simply intent on getting drunk and high. By contrast Haarlem is 20 minutes away with small quaint streets, old Dutch architecture and alive with locals with a real good friendly vibe about the place. Lots of restaurants to choose from and we enjoyed great food and service in the one we chose.

Back into Amsterdam tomorrow for a historical  tour around Jewish area in the war.
