Flowers

Flowers have been a bit of a theme today. There was a group time of prayer at church and my three-year old goddaughter used the time to thank God for flowers. Very cute. And very encouraging.

After church, I had to walk back so I took the opportunity to take a scenic route along the Downs Link. It was lined with woodland and many flowers. If only I knew the names of all the flowers, I’d be able to describe it better! There were areas carpeted with bluebells and other places where the ground was coated with white flowers. Little clumps of white petals laced the side of the path, interspersed by yellow primroses. Blossom decorated various trees and, all in all, I was left awestruck by the intricacies of God’s creation.

As I walked, I listened to the Jesus storybook bible. It helped keep my thoughts mostly bearable but OCD did creep in a bit. So I felt it very relevant when my audiobook reminded me of the wonderful verses from Matthew 6:28-33.

‘And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.’

I’m not sure I’ve quite got that into my heart. I feel a bit distant from a lot of truths at the moment. But it doesn’t mean they aren’t true!
