Amelanchier

The amelanchier is about at its peak, and looking lovely in the sunshine today. The flowers won't last long though. The berries that follow are attractive, but the blackbirds eat them all long before they're ripe. After years of not moving much after it was transplanted as a fairly mature shrub, the amelanchier suddenly put on a spurt of growth from the base a couple of years ago, and the new shoots are now taller than the original shrub was. At last it seems fairly happy where it is.
