Ryeland

We went to Wilmcote this morning. There we parked up at Mary Arden's Farm and had a walk along the canal before going into the property.  The farm had been closed for the winter and now reopened for the season. As this Shakespeare property is a working Tudor farm there were various animals, mainly rare breeds, on display including this Ryeland sheep and her new lambs.

Ryeland sheep are one of the oldest breeds in the country going back seven centuries when the monks of Leominster bred sheep and grazed them on their rye pastures, hence the name.
