Tall Grass in Early Morning Light

We went to the upper Spring Lake trail this morning. It is a short enough walk for Ozzie while still encompassing woods, water and open meadows. I was hoping to find some wildflowers but the rainy year has produced prodigious amounts of grass which I hope don't come back to haunt us when they dry out. The grass has engulfed most of the wildflowers and even a picnic table, but I did find some Shooting Stars.* There will be a lot of mowing going on this year....

It has been a beautiful day today, prompting me to get out and do some cutting and pruning. I have refilled the huge fruit bowl in the kitchen with oranges and lemons and put a lot more into the compost bin. Everybody else has more lemons and oranges than they can use too, so we can't even give them away.

Dana came over with Blake and, claiming to need something to do, cut back a large bed of lantana for us. She was going to try and chop off some of the lower leaves? bracts? arms? of a big agave, but the special tool OilMan bought for the purpose didn't work at all, and all she managed to do was splatter herself with juice? water? nectar? which raised a rash and made her leg feel like it was on fire. It seems that things either die or thrive in this garden. It is hard work to plant anything in the rocky ground, and if they thrive it is often even harder to control them!

Having a nice garden is a lot of work! We couldn't do it without Dana....
