Kingcups

Grandsons here today. Garden pond dipping was on the agenda and they found some large Newts and a Caddisfly house.
My eye was taken by the Kingcups at the side of the pond. They looked in peak condition.

Earlier in the day they went to the bird reserve. There was good news and bad news.
There are now 59 Avocets (see extras) and three pairs have laid eggs,

The bad news is shown by the swan struggling with a piece of plastic sheeting which must have blown into the reserve. What have we done I wonder?
