Danby Rigg Walk

It’s taken me a week to get around to walking the Danby Rigg circuit.  I enjoyed the walk and also saw two male deer (Roe deer I think) as I walked along the road from Rowan Tree Farm.  I’ve finally got around to identifying the striking call of a Green Woodpecker who had hidden himself among the branches of one of the few trees leading up to the moor.  Then there were rabbits galore, several Meadow Pipits and this red grouse calling from his vantage point above the path.

Back in time for breakfast and a quick shower before deciding what to do next.  The middle part of the day has been very windy and bitterly cold.  We visited the bird hide at Scaling Dam, which was fairly deserted apart from some geese, a few lapwings and a couple of redshanks and gave up after about 30 mins.  Then we headed for the Bike Hub cafe again for an afternoon breakfast.  We’re now back and it looks like the sun is coming out again, which is fantastic.
