London 2012 - Blip 8 - Athletics

My first two tickets had been Olympic wrestling and Paralympic swimming, but as time went on, even during the Olympics themselves, I'd been looking for more Paralympic tickets.

This was partly driven by a very strong desire to see track cycling, but also a feeling that the Paralympics were going to equal, if not better, the Olympics - and so it turned out.

Some amazing luck and good timing on the ticket website netted me four tickets for the Athletics and the Equestrian - so Mum and Dad were able to come along too. It was a bit of a rush getting from the Olympic Park to North Greenwich over lunch, but we managed to not miss too much.

Good seats in the Olympic Stadium meant we sat almost next to the cauldron and saw some great competition. Good WiFi coverage also meant we could access Channel 4's excellent Lexi decoder to help understand the classification system.

If I'm honest, I wasn't expecting to enjoy the Equestrian - how wrong could I have been. It was fantastic to watch and, even being a complete novice watching the sport, it was clear Sophie Christiansen was head and shoulders above everybody else - as her eventual three Golds were to prove.

A fantastic day, topped off by dinner at Jamie's i Canary Wharf on the way home.
