Oswestry Cottage Hospital

This was Oswestry Cottage Hospital which was a very small one, only taking 14 patients. It opened in 1890 and closed in 1948 in the year that the National Health Service was born.

It's work was taken over and expanded by Oswestry and District Hospital which was much loved and used in the town. Unfortunately it was closed by the health authority in 1989 together with many other cottage hospitals in the county after 50 years. The town wanted to keep it and I was involved with the protests but they came to nothing.  The land is now a housing estate and the town doesn't have a hospital - we have to travel 20 miles to Shrewsbury.

I can't do yoga at the moment but joined the group for the end of term trip to the cafe at the Willow Gallery.
