George Kingston

This is a wonderful portrait of George Kingston.  Sir George Strickland Kingston arrived in South Australia on the Cygnet in 1836. He was the Deputy Surveyor to William Light, and was engaged to survey the new colony of South Australia. Kingston was also the first Speaker of the South Australian House of Assembly.

Next week is the start of our history month here in South Australia. We will be attending a lecture about Kingston and his famous book case. Maybe a photo of it after the lecture.
