Early Evening Stroll

After a nice day at the movies and lunch with my friend, I then went home and Big R and Cowboy and I went out to the nearby greenbelt to walk.  The parking lot was full and many families, runners, walkers, dogs and birds were out enjoying the evening.  It was pleasant and the temperature very nice for a change!
I saw the movie The Best of Enemies and it was very good.  It is based on a true story that took place in 1971...when racial tensions were mounting in Durham , NC and both whites and blacks were brought together to work on whether or not to integrate the schools as the main Black school had a fire and was virtually inhabitable...yet the Black children were being made to go in shifts to the few classrooms still operable...but the smoke and ravages of the fire remained.  So heading this racially mixed committee was a female Black civil rts. activist and the local head of the KKK.  After working for a few weeks the group then took a vote and to integrate the schools won....because of a very surprise vote....and this true story of the then lifelong friendship that came about between the Black female activist and the White KKK leader was validation that some people can change and that learning more intimately about our neighbors can bring understanding and "progress".  Heartwarming movie especailly considering the times.and the continued spewing by Orange man of hatred.  Bringing peoples together , not dividing them (us) is a much loftier goal.
