Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Dave, Steve, Arvin and I all got up early and headed off to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area to spend the day exploring. Dave knew of a slot canyon to visit so we headed there first. Today is was beautifully sunny and bright after a day of rain yesterday.

We found our turn off and headed up a side road and into a wash. After a few false turns we found our road and headed up it in Dave's Honda CRV which has all wheel drive. Quickly we realized that the rock area we were going up was not passable. Dave began to back down and unfortunately wedged the car solidly in the rocks. The right back wheel was stuck against a line of rocks and his right front and left back were spinning. It took an hour to get the car off and back into a wide area where we could park it.

We headed up the wash and found the beautiful slot canyon. We ate our sandwiches at the mouth and then walked up the canyon and back. Dave and Steve headed into a mine and Arvin and I ambled back to the car.

When the guys returned we headed to a favorite spot along the road and did some more exploring. This photo was taken at that spot. This is worth looking at in large by pressing the "l" key.

Now we are relaxing and enjoying looking at the photos we took. It was a great day.
