Feeding: Guanacos are vegetarians, their diet includes grasslands, shrubs and leaves of small trees.
Habitat: Serrania, valleys, plateaus and desert areas.

Geographic distribution in Argentina: The guanacos have a wide geographical distribution that includes the Patagonian plateaus, the foothills, central and northern Argentina.

In Patagonia it is present in all the provinces: Tierra del Fuego, Santa Cruz, Chubut, Río Negro and Neuquén. Also in part of La Pampa and south of Buenos Aires. In the mountains and plains of San Luis, Córdoba. In the mountain range of Mendoza, San Juan, La Rioja, Catamarca, Salta and Jujuy.

Characteristics: The guanaco is a mammal that lives in groups (tropillas) where dominant males and females stand out. The adult guanaco reaches a height of 1.60 meters and weighs 90 kilos.

Comments: Argentina is the country with the largest number of guanacos. In Patagonia and the foothills are more abundant. In Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Córdoba and San Luis, guanacos are threatened by the destruction of their habitat for agriculture.
